Monitoring Behavior
Star Status: We have a behavior chart in our classroom. Each student's goal is to be on Star Status each day. Students are asked to move up or down the chart depending on their behavior.
Classroom Star Tickets: Students can earn classroom star tickets for making good choices. Tickets are turned into a jar. Each Friday I draw 5 tickets for prizes.
Preferred Activity Time (P.A.T.): When students are caught showing good behavior they can earn P.A.T. minutes. We keep track of the P.A.T. minutes on the board. When our classroom reaches 30 minutes, students vote to use those minutes for a variety of preferred activities: extra recess, extra gym time, silly dress-up day, classroom game time, watch a movie, and more.
Misbehaviors: Students who do not follow procedures may be asked to write their names on a marker board at the back of the room. Students who write their names on the board will have their misbehaviors recorded in a book. I will report those misbehaviors to parents on the back of our classroom newsletter. In addition, students may owe recess minutes for misbehaviors.
"Time to Refocus" Sheet: Students who do not follow procedures may be asked to reflect on their misbehaviors. They will write their reflections on "Time to Refocus" sheets. If asked to reflect, they must tell me what their misbehavior was and what correct behavior they will show instead. Their reflection must be written in complete sentences using neat handwriting. The reflection must be signed by a parent and returned to school the next day.
